Doctoral degree students
  • Students Entering with Bachelor's Degrees
    • Students must take the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam the first time no later than the third semester after being admitted to the Ph.D. program. Students failing the qualifying exam the first time can take it a second time, no later than the fourth semester after being admitted to the Ph.D. program.
    • Students must pass the Dissertation Proposal Defense no longer than two calendar years.
  • Students Entering with Master's Degrees
    • Students must take the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam the first time no later than the first semester after being admitted to the Ph.D. program. Students failing the qualifying exam the first time can take it a second time, no later than the second semester after being admitted to the Ph.D. program.
    • Students must pass the Dissertation Proposal Defense no longer than three calendar years.
  • Advisory Committee: This committee consists of at least four members, including the student's advisor and co-advisor (if any). At least one member must be from outside the university.
  • In addition to these BIE requirements, rules and regulations are based on an announcement by the University.
Master’s degree students
  • Students must take the Thesis Proposal Defense no longer than two calendar years.
  • Advisory Committee: This committee consists of at least four members, including the student's advisor and co-advisor (if any). At least one member must be from outside the university.
  • In addition to these BIE requirements, rules and regulations are based on an announcement by the University.
